175th Anniversary Weekend

Friday 13th October 2006

7.00 pm          Bell ringing by Church Members and the Lancashire Association of Change Ringers.

7.30 pm        The arrival of The Mayor, Councillor Bernard Murphy.

            Opening Ceremony by John A Wilkinson Esq OBE, Chairman of Salford City Reds.

8.00 pm         A short Organ recital by Derrick Cantrell Esq MA, B.Mus(Oxon FRCO.                                          
            Organist Emeritus of Manchester Cathedral.                                                                                
            Cheese and wine will be served throughout the evening.

Saturday 14th October 2006

10.00 am         Church Coffee Morning and Open Day.

Take a tour of the crypt, the gallery and the bell chamber and view a display of the
history of the Church.  Refreshments will be available.

12.30 pm         A hot lunch will be served.

2.30 pm         A talk by the Prayer Book Society (Manchester Diocesan Branch) on ‘100 years
            of the English Hymnal, & Percy Dearmer’.

Afternoon tea will be served

4.30 pm         Choral Evensong (BCP) with The Manchester Cathedral Voluntary Choir.



Sunday 15th October 2006

10.30 am         The church bells will be rung to welcome the congregation to worship.

11.00 am        Festival Sung Eucharist with celebrant and preacher, The Right Reverend
    Dr Tim Ellis AKC, Suffragan Bishop of Grantham, Diocese of Lincoln.

    In the presence of The Right Honourable Hazel Blears MP and The Mayor of Salford,
    Cllr Bernard Murphy.

12.30 pm        Buffet lunch.

3.00  pm         Performance by The Salford Choral Society.

6.00  pm        A Festival Service of Thanksgiving and Re-dedication of the side chapel in
    honour of St George by The Right Reverend Stephen Lowe, Area Bishop of Hulme.
